Our History

The 3C Ranch has deep ties to Arizona’s past. It was originally purchased by Peter R. Brady (pictured), an early settler and political office holder in Arizona Territory.

Peter R. Brady (c. 1890)

Brady was raised in Washington D.C. where his father served as personal secretary to President Andrew Jackson, a frequent guest in the Brady family home.

In 1847, after a brief period in the Navy, he served as a Texas Ranger in the Mexican-American war. After which, he moved to Tucson and became Pima County’s first elected Sheriff. He purchased the ranch in 1873, out of which his son Richard Brady operated the Columbia Cattle Company, thus the “3C” Ranch was born.

In 1898, Richard Brady built the Verde House at the center of our property. This beautiful and stately ranch home was completed for only $4,000 (about $125,000 today).

Since that time, the 3C Ranch has served as a getaway for notable persons looking to find peace and privacy in a remote part of the country. Movie stars and famous politicians have been among the countless who were drawn away from bustling cities to someplace beautifully set apart, quiet, and secluded.

Over the years, passing through a small handful of owners, the ranch has been remarkably well preserved. It’s structures are original, and though outfitted with modern conveniences, still capture the rustic wonder of the wild west. We invite you to experience this wonder for yourself, and add your footprint to a storied piece of Arizona history.
